Reviewer Rating: * * * * * 'Bloodwind' written by Charlotte Boyett-Compo is a thrilling science fiction adventure romance. The author, Charlotte, has a wonderful descriptive way with words. She brings the book to life with vivid realism. The topic of this book is a planet who, through failed plots, has ended up with no women. So the government of the time puts a system in place that has Reapers. Men that reap other worlds of their women. Through time, this causes the women to be treated much like cattle. The women form a group called the Resistance which, of course, opposes such treatment of women. As in any such group, there are fringe members that wreck havoc to the plan...... behind other members backs. The hero is name Kamerone Cree and he is a Reaper. You could just plop Mel Gibson down in this role in the movie - ya know the young Mel that was in Mad Max. Reapers are raised by 'bots' from birth on into adolescence. They are trained to not show emotions, are not allowed to form attachments, and are not allowed any subversive nature to develop within. They are to give their lives to honor the Tribunal (the ruling governmental force on the planet). Well - Cree and the Resistance meet up and oops -- Cree falls in love. That's when his infatuation with being a governmental employee and all the benefits fades and doesn't hold the appeal as it once did. Especially when the same said government makes ALL decisions concerning his life. Of course this all comes to a monumental explosive head and everything is good. But it is a great book to read and I found myself wondering about them while I wasn't able to be reading. I know - I need to get a life! :0)
