'Browne Candidate' written by Nicole Givens Kurtz is a futuristic look at the devastation that human beings have wrecked upon both the planet and humans themselves.
The premise is that, for some reason, women who work
are supposedly not able to reproduce. Hence the Candidate program is
birthed. The candidates function in life is to bear children for the
couples who are unable to procreate by themselves. In the
commercials, the candidates are portrayed as loving sex and the
goddesses who rule their world. The dark hidden secret is the
candidates are sold into slavery by their own mothers for much needed
funds.
Apparently the candidates are view just as vessels and are used as
receptacles of semen as the wives look on at the proceedings.
On another front are the efforts of the Resistance....
who are basically political opponents of the laws that are in effect.
All in all - this book, to me anyway, tried to tackle on too many
fronts. It seemed to be
patchy and far-reaching at times. And I thought it odd for a writer who
seems to be wanting to 'free' the browne (literally and figuratively)
woman, that she would choose the premise of any type of slavery or
bondage. It actually is a decent read but it could use some
streamlining.
