This book was a delightful cornucopia of vivid description and a symphony of emotion. Tracy Jones painted a vivid picture of Maggie McCarty’s journey from the famine stricken Ireland to the rich farmland of 1849 Indiana. Headstrong and determined, lonely Maggie comes to America to visit her spinster aunt who works as a housekeeper of a large farm house. Maggie is trying to get over the death of her dear father and hopes that coming to a new land with help her leave the pain of the past behind her. But at the age of 21, Maggie's life has been filled with heartache, but even her pain can’t match the sorrow of the introverted Benjamin Driver, who lost both his beautiful young wife, Lydia, and baby three years ago.

Maggie, however, knows nothing of Benjamin’s past when they encounter one another for the first time. Maggie’s impression of Benjamin is that he is an arrogant rich man who has no desire to converse with someone from her lowly station. More offended than she cares to admit, Maggie cloaks herself with her stiff-necked Irish pride. She may be poor and alone in the world, except for her Aunt Catherine, but she is as good as any man! The arrogant Benjamin Driver be damned!

But when Benjamin watches Maggie with her red hair of pure fire and emerald green eyes, it isn’t arrogance he’s feeling. When he looks at Maggie he see a part of himself which has died. All of the joy in his life died three years ago. He blames himself for his wife’s death, as the farm wasn’t the place to bring the sheltered city girl he married. She hadn’t wanted this life, nor the child she carried, but he forced both upon her. When he looks at Maggie, hot, sweet fire, throbs through his veins. He feels like he’s betraying the memory of his late wife every time Maggie talks to him. He’s never met anyone like her, her fire, her need to embrace life and her bold way of speaking her mind to anyone she meets. And with each encounter with Maggie, he feels his past slipping away.

When Maggie learns of Benjamin’s arranged, loveless marriage she understands his pain and fear of marring again. She, too, was betrothed to a man she could never love and left Ireland to escape him.

DARE TO DREAM is a wonderful romp! The perfect roller-coast of emotion for true fans of historical romance. Sit down with a cup of hot cocoa and box of tissues-to wipe the tears of laughter and tears of sorry. Enjoy the story. Tracy Jones has written a keeper.
